17.10.2026 Vs Stockport Georgians

Sutton United made it six league wins in a row with a composed and confident four-goal victory over fellow newly promoted side Stockport Georgians.

The Greens settled quickly, controlling possession without initially finding that killing edge. Their patience was rewarded on 34 minutes when Lewis Hayden clipped a precise forward pass into Joe Gildea, who produced a superbly weighted through ball for Aidan Mee. The young full back controlled the ball before lashing his finish high into the net to give Sutton a deserved lead.

Stockport responded immediately, with Jamie Walsh curling a dangerous effort from the edge of the area that Greg Lewis pushed away at full stretch.

Sutton’s second goal arrived five minutes before the interval with a strong attack down the left before Tom Massey was twice denied by some good defending from Stockport. When the ball fell to Red Simmons on the edge of the box, he shifted onto his left foot and found the top corner for his first goal of the season, sending United into half time with a two-goal advantage.

Stockport introduced Oscar Byron and Luke Casey at the break, but Sutton continued to dictate the tempo, and within three minutes of the restart Ethan Mee and Simmons combined neatly on the left to find Gildea inside the area. The striker rolled his defender expertly and finished across Morgan Piper into the far corner to make it 3-0 to the Greens.

United were playing with confidence and Gildea went close again with a curling 20-yard effort that wasn’t far off the top corner, while Ryan Nesbitt forced Piper into an excellent low save after executing a fine shot from the edge of the box.

As the Greens pressed forward, Lewis Wall, James Gallagher, and Sean Devlin all had efforts from set pieces, and Joseph Kwarteng saw his shot from 18-yards blocked by a well-placed defender.

Stockport’s best spell came in the last twenty minutes. Byron broke down the right and delivered a teasing cross that Carl Pendlebury glanced wide and shortly after, Kyle Wych dribbled cleverly into the box but was denied by Lewis.

United looked determined to keep their clean sheet, as Daniel Mallinson’s long-range strike drew another diving stop from the Sutton goalkeeper, and centre-half Gallagher produced a crucial block to prevent Pendlebury reducing the deficit.

Despite the visitors’ late resurgence, Sutton remained organised and in control, adding a fourth goal in added time. Jayden Hunter was brought down in the penalty box and stepped up to convert the spot kick with composure, sealing his tenth goal of the season and rounding off a strong team performance.

Next up for the Greens is a Wednesday night fixture as they travel to Darlaston Town on 21 October, kick off 7.45pm.
